Why I Stopped Using Augmented Reality On My Smartphon

Introduction

I used to love augmented reality. I’ve always been an early adopter when it comes to technology, so when the first wave of AR apps came out for smartphones, I was thrilled. Now, however, I wish that they would go away forever. Here’s why:

I thought it was cool, but I was wrong.

I thought it was cool, but I was wrong.

It was fun to play with at first. I could see my friends’ faces in my conversations, and I could share photos of places I’d been and things I’d seen. But then it just got annoying because they kept asking me questions about what they were seeing on their phones when all they had to do was look up from their screen instead of interrupting me with questions like “Who’s this person?” or “Where are we?” In the end, augmented reality is nothing more than an annoyance that takes away from what should be a simple experience: talking face-to-face with another human being without having technology get in between us.

It was a distraction.

Augmented reality is a technology that can be used in many different ways. Some people use it to play games, others use it to find out information about their surroundings and some use it just for fun. But as I was using augmented reality on my smartphone, I started to notice that it was becoming a distraction from the real world around me.

I would walk down the street looking at my screen instead of looking at what was going on around me. I would get lost in this virtual world while walking down streets or sitting at restaurants with friends because they were not there but rather somewhere else entirely (on my phone). This made me feel disconnected from everything around me including myself!

It didn’t work well with my phone.

  • It was hard to use my phone in the same way I normally do.
  • I had to hold it differently.
  • I couldn’t text or call people, because that would make me look like an idiot.

I also found myself having to put down my phone and pick up a book when I wanted to read something, which was annoying because I’m an avid reader and love nothing more than curling up with a good book while also scrolling through Instagram (or whatever social media platform is currently hot).

It’s not necessary.

You don’t need to use augmented reality.

There are other ways to get the same information. For example, if you want to know where the nearest park is, you could just look at a map or ask someone who lives in your neighborhood. You won’t be able to see how many Pokémon are in that park because they’re not really there, but that’s okay–you can still enjoy yourself anyway!

It’s not a good use of your time and money because it takes up battery life on your phone (which means less time talking with friends), takes up space on its internal memory (which means less room for music), uses up data from your wireless plan when downloading games and apps related to augmented reality technology (which means more money spent on monthly bills).

I’ve stopped using augmented reality on my smartphone and wish that I could take it off of my phone altogether.

I’ve stopped using augmented reality on my smartphone and wish that I could take it off of my phone altogether.

The main reason is that it’s a waste of time. In fact, there are many things I could be doing with my time instead of playing the same game over and over again in AR mode. I could be reading a book or watching TV or spending time with friends or family members who aren’t sitting next to me while they’re also playing the same game on their phones as well!

Another reason is because it’s not useful at all–I mean really? How often do you really need directions on how to get somewhere when there are maps available everywhere? And if your GPS isn’t working properly like mine does sometimes then there really isn’t much point in using an app like Google Maps anyway (unless maybe if we were supposed go somewhere but didn’t know where exactly).

Conclusion

I wish I could take off augmented reality from my phone, but it’s not that easy. There are a lot of apps that use it and some people might not want to lose access to them just because I don’t like them anymore. However, if you’re reading this article then there’s a good chance that you have an Android device and so maybe we can work together on making things better for all of us!
